Mesquite adds third EV charging location

Home Posted on July 11, 2025 | Last Updated on July 11, 2025

The City of Mesquite has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) charging to include a third location.

The City was approved for $182,880 by the U.S. Department of Energy under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Voucher Rebate Program to expand its technology and EV footprint.

The funding covers the purchase and installation of a new electric vehicle charging station located at 1616 N. Galloway and the purchase of three electric vehicles for City departments.

The City began offering EV charging in 2023 with two charging locations, made possible by a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation as part of the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement program. The grant covered the cost of the purchase and installation of three dual-port Level II EV chargers.

The City’s EV charging stations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. A fee of 30 cents per kWh will be charged for usage, which is 21 cents less than average in the state of Texas, according to a 2024 report by Stable Auto. Charging fees depends on duration and are subject to change.

Mesquite’s EV charging stations locations:

  • Mesquite Municipal Center, 1515 N. Galloway Ave. – Two EV chargers with the capacity to charge four vehicles
  • Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. – One EV charger with the capacity to charge two vehicles
  • Mesquite Housing and Community Services, 1616 N. Galloway Ave. – One EV charger with the capacity to charge two vehicles
