Public Information Act

About the Public Information Act

Texas Government Code, Chapter 552, (“Public Information Act”) gives you the right to access government records; and an officer for public information and the officer's agent may not ask why you want them. All government information is presumed to be available to the public. However, certain exceptions (generally falling into two categories: Mandatory Exceptions and Discretionary Exceptions) may apply to the disclosure of the information. i.e. Some records (or portions of records) may not be released to Requestors.

Members of the public may obtain additional Public Information Act information and resources on the Texas Attorney General’s Open Government website.
