Library Card Application for Residents
A library card for a Mesquite* resident is issued for a period of three years. When the card expires, we will ask residents to visit one of our libraries to verify their address and other information. Then the card will be extended for another three years. (This also applies to residents of Garland, Balch Springs, and other exceptions to the non-residency card.)
A parent or legal guardian can apply for a library card for a child 13 years old and younger. Teens aged 14-17 years can apply for a library card on their own; a parent’s signature is required on the application to allow access to the library’s Internet Access computers.
Library Card Renewal for Residents
If your library card expires, you will need to visit one of our libraries to renew the card. At that time, we will need to verify your address and other information to extend the card for another three years.
Library Card Renewal for Non-Residents
A non-resident library card is issued for one year. When a non-resident card expires, the cardholder will need to visit one of our libraries to pay the annual fee and verify information for a new card.
Borrowing Items
You may borrow two items when you first receive your library card. After that first visit, there is a limit of 20 books, 5 movies and 5 audiobooks or (or Playaways) per library card.

The exceptions are:
- DVDs, which can be borrowed for one week.
