The City of Mesquite, in partnership with the Hispanic Forum of Mesquite, is inviting the community to a fiesta of culture and spice at the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration.
This year’s Cinco de Mayo event will take place from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, in Downtown Mesquite at Front Street Station, 100 W. Front St.
The festivities will include authentic Mexican food and artisanal vendors, live music from popular Dallas-based cumbia band Sabor Puro at 1 p.m., folklórico dancers at 3 p.m., a Hispanic culture fashion show at 3:40 p.m. and the crowd-favorite jalapeño eating contest at 4:15 p.m.
Children can enjoy a dedicated kids’ area with a balloon twister, a chalk and bubble play station, arts and crafts, inflatables, face painting, and piñata breaks at 12:25 and 2:30 p.m.
Several sponsors will support the event, including Whataburger, sponsoring the jalapeño eating contest; Blooming Modèles, sponsoring the Hispanic culture fashion show; and Zipline, America’s Credit Union, Su Vida Healthcare, Dallas Regional Medical Center and Credit Union of Texas.
