Bailey named Mesquite Planning and Development Services Director

The City of Mesquite has hired Adam Bailey as the Planning and Development Services Director.

Bailey, who started on Jan. 13, came to Mesquite with more than 20 years of experience in city planning in the U.S. and Australia.

Most recently, Bailey served as the Community Planning and Design Manager with the Shreveport Metropolitan Planning Commission, where his accomplishments include recommending and implementing a plan to unify the city’s code, managing multiple large-scale projects, introducing new technology systems, working with the city’s Historic Preservation Commission, and managing the overhaul of his department’s website.

Bailey worked as an urban planner and landscape designer for TBG Partners in Dallas; as an urban planner and landscape designer for Clouston Associates in Sydney, Australia; as an urban planner and architectural designer for 505 Design in Charlotte, North Carolina; and as an urban planner and architectural designer for Copper Carry in Atlanta, Georgia.

Bailey earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Louisiana Tech University. He earned two master’s degrees from Auburn University -- one in community planning and the other in landscape architecture. He is a member of several professional associations and boards including the Congress of New Urbanism, the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions and the American Planning Association.

Bailey is an avid outdoors enthusiast, working as a whitewater river guide and trip leader in the U.S. and Australia. He has authored hundreds of articles for publications including "SB Magazine" and "One Country" and was a contributing photographer in the book “Looking Beyond the Highway.”
