The City Council approved the move trash pick-up service permanently to the front of some homes early in 2024 because negotiating older, narrow alleyways is causing damage to trash trucks, fences, and ruts in alleyways - all of which are costly to repair. In addition, the Solid Waste staff has experienced many dangerous conditions in alleyways when picking up trash such as hanging branches and limbs from trees, mud, broken trash container brackets and more. These conditions make trash pick-up unsafe and costly. Switching to front driveway pickup in certain neighborhoods will make the alleys safer and cleaner, cause fewer ruts in the alleys and help trash vehicles avoid damage to fences and utilities. The change will help the City avoid spending an estimated $50 million in alleyway pavement repairs. Visit the Driveway Service webpage for more information.

Yes. The City’s Street Division will continue to make repairs to make alleys drivable for other utility companies. This change reduces the need for full reconstruction of alleys, but the City will still make minor repairs where needed.
