Mesquite, Texas – March 7, 2019 – Charlene Orr, executive director of Historic Mesquite, Inc. (HMI), received the Truett Latimer Award at the 2019 Preservation Texas Honor Awards Ceremony.
“I’m truly honored to be a recipient of this award,” Orr said. “It is recognition of what we have aspired to do here in Mesquite with historic preservation and a push to keep going.”
The Truett Latimer Award recognizes professionals who demonstrate a significant commitment to preservation as part of their job responsibilities. Orr was honored for overseeing the restoration of buildings at the Opal Lawrence Historical Park, maintenance of the 1876 Florence Ranch Homestead, acquiring nonprofit status for HMI, and many other achievements. Orr became HMI executive director in 1995.
