November 13, 2018 - Mesquite, TX - The City Council is expected to receive a report and presentation regarding redistricting at the City Council Pre-Meeting scheduled for Monday, November 19 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. At the City Council Regular Meeting, there are plans to conduct a public hearing to receive and discuss public input and comment on redistricting and the proposed illustrative plan. Additionally, there will be consideration and possible action to revise the designated illustrative redistricting plan, or propose a final redistricting plan for adoption at the December 3, 2018, City Council meeting.
The Council is in the process transitioning the system for electing the City's six Councilmembers to a single member district system. They have sought public input on the process through a series of public input meetings and public hearings. The change to single member districts was part of the City Charter amendments approved by voters in May. The City has a variety of maps, documents and educational videos on a special website dedicated to this topic. The webpage is www.cityofmesquite.com/Redistricting.
