Leaders from across Mesquite gathered for the annual State of the Community meeting last week. The informal discussion was held at the Mesquite Arts Center and drew a packed crowd to the venue. The panel-style forum included remarks and insight from Dallas College – Eastfield President Dr. Eddie Tealer, Mesquite ISD Superintendent Dr. Ángel Rivera, Mesquite Chamber of Commerce President Alexander Helgar, and Mesquite Mayor Daniel Alemán Jr. All agreed that the community’s growth is positive, opportunities abound, and residents are fully committed to helping their neighbor when times get tough.

During the roundtable, panelists addressed a wide range of questions, many of which had been previously submitted by the public. Topics included wins and challenges, budgeting concerns, addressing the needs of diverse groups, as well as investing in the growth of the community’s future leaders and workforce.

The Mayor closed the event with a positive message about the many great things going on in Mesquite. He said while the future looks bright, there is still more to be done. To stand out from surrounding cities, and tap into the heart of Mesquite, residents and businesses need to increase their engagement within the community. “We need to continue working together and helping our neighbors; that’s what our community is all about,” said Mayor Alemán. “When we Get Involved—we can accomplish anything in Mesquite.”
