Mesquite, TX – September 28, 2022 – The City of Mesquite will implement a 9% increase in water rates effective October 1, 2022. The rate adjustment is due to a 13% increase in the cost of water supplied by the North Texas Municipal Water District due to significant costs in the chemicals and labor needed to treat drinking water.
“Every year the City Council evaluates the water system budget and sets the rate for customers. The Council has held the rate the same for the past two years. The City has made every attempt to absorb the increased costs from NTMWD into our current rate structure. Unfortunately, these costs will have to be passed on to our customers,” said City Manager Cliff Keheley.
The City of Mesquite recommends residents evaluate their water usage and look for opportunities to save by maintaining plumbing, checking for leaks in toilets and other conservation measures.
