Mesquite, TX – September 14, 2020 – Before the April 18 Council Meeting, Mesquite Mayor Daniel Alemán presented a special proclamation to the Heart Board in honor of Go Red for Women Day.

Below is the full proclamation:
WHEREAS, heart disease is the nation’s leading cause of death in women and is more deadly than all forms of cancer combined, killing approximately one woman every minute; and
WHEREAS, one in three American women die of cardiovascular disease and only one in five women consider cardiovascular disease their greatest health threat; and
WHEREAS, 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease and since 1984 more women than men have died each year from heart disease; and
WHEREAS, Go Red for Women is the American Heart Association’s national call to increase awareness of heart disease and to inspire women to take charge of their heart health.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Daniel Alemán, Mayor of the City of Mesquite, in recognition of the importance of the ongoing fight against heart disease and stroke, do hereby proclaim April 18, 2022, as:
Go Red for Women Day
in the City of Mesquite, and urge all citizens and businesses to show their support for women and the fight against heart disease by commemorating this day by wearing the color red. By increasing awareness and empowering women to reduce their risk for cardiovascular disease, we can save thousands of lives each year.
