Update 12/06/21: Juventina Vazques Bences, a 43-year-old female from Balch Springs, was arrested during the same incident for the charge of aggravated assault. This charge was in relation to the initial disturbance and not the officer-involved shooting.

Update 12/06/21: The suspect in this offense has been identified as Jamie Jaramillo, a 37-year-old man from Balch Springs. The suspect is still listed in critical condition at a local area hospital. His charges will include Capital Murder of a Peace Officer.

Original Release: On Friday, December 3, 2021, at approximately 1:40 P.M. Mesquite Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the 1500 block of S. Belt Line Rd. in the City of Mesquite.  During the course of the investigation, an officer was shot and a male suspect was also shot. Both were transported to local area hospitals in critical condition.
