Mesquite, TX – February 14, 2021 – The City of Mesquite has announced the temporary suspension of all non-essential services on Feb. 15 due to the weather forecast of extreme low temperatures and precipitation, with the essential services of police, fire and water reconnections remaining in place. The public is directed to call Water Utilities Dispatch at 972-216-6278 if they experience any disruption in water services to their home.
The Feb. 15 City Council meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. will be held and the public may participate by videoconference or telephone. Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/WatchCouncilMeetings for details on accessing the meeting.
City services impacted on Feb. 15 include:
- Suspension of residential solid waste collection, environmental code enforcement, street repairs, building inspections and water utility bill and tax payments.
- Closures of facilities: Mesquite City Hall, Mesquite Municipal Center, Mesquite Community Services, Mesquite Art Center, Mesquite Library System, Mesquite Municipal Court, Mesquite Convenience Center, Mesquite Metro Airport terminal as well as senior and recreation centers.
- Closure of Mesquite Animal Shelter for in-person services, but the public may still view lost pets and animals available for adoption in the shelter at www.cityofmesquite.com/animal. For emergency services or to reclaim a lost pet the public may call 972-216-6283.
The Public Works Department has three sanding trucks operating to address city intersections, bridges and major thoroughfares in Mesquite, with a fourth truck to dispatch to roadways that are experiencing trouble spots.
City Manager Cliff Keheley said, “I want to assure our citizens that Fire and Police services are not impacted by these closures. We will have emergency teams to address issues with water service and other impacts of the storm. We are making the decision to suspend other services out of concern for the safety of our employees.”
