Mesquite, TX – November 11, 2020 – On Nov. 11, Mesquite Mayor Bruce Archer presented a special proclamation to Mesquite resident, Bobby Robinson, in honor of his contributions to the Mesquite community, including serving as a member of the North Texas Municipal Water District Board of Director from 1995 – 2017 and as a City Councilmember from 1961 – 1964.

WHEREAS, Bobby Robinson was born in Dallas, Texas, and raised in the Pleasant Mound area; and
WHEREAS, Bobby began attending Mesquite schools in the eighth grade and bought or thumbed a ride to school. Bobby was a member of the football and basketball teams at Mesquite High School and served as a captain his senior year; and
WHEREAS, Bobby met Maureen Hanby in the eighth grade, and they began dating during their junior year of high school. After college, they were married on June 25, 1954, by Bobby’s grandfather, the Rev. R. W. Robinson; and
WHEREAS, Bobby and Maureen were blessed with three children – son Coach Rob Robinson and wife Janice, daughters Lyndi Robinson and Hyla Susan Robinson-Rice and husband Skip – four grandchildren and one great grandchild; and
WHEREAS, Bobby served the Mesquite community well – working countless years as owner of the E. H. Hanby Insurance Agency, serving as elder at First Presbyterian Church of Mesquite, a member and President of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce, a member and holding all offices of the Mesquite Lions Club, a member of the North Texas Municipal Water District Board of Directors from 1995 – 2017 and as City Councilmember from 1961-1964; and
WHEREAS, during his long and productive life, Bobby has given tirelessly and lovingly to his family and friends and has seen our country grow and evolve more than any generation before him.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Bruce Archer, Mayor of the City of Mesquite, do hereby proclaim Wednesday, November 11, 2020, as:
Bobby Robinson Day
in the City of Mesquite, and honor and recognize Bobby for his contributions to the Mesquite community. He has truly left the Mesquite community a better place to live and raise a family.
