Mesquite, TX – October 8, 2020 – On Saturday, Oct.3 nearly 200 volunteers gathered throughout Mesquite to assist 27 homeowners with home projects such as painting, landscaping and other minor home exterior projects. This was all part of the 16th annual Addressing Mesquite Day.
More than 1,000 homeowners in Mesquite have received help since Addressing Mesquite Day’s inception in 2015. This annual one-day event focuses on home repairs needed by senior citizens, single parents, military veterans, the disabled and other homeowners in Mesquite.
This year, the City of Mesquite and volunteers had to adjust to keep with the public health guidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But volunteers from local high schools, churches, civic clubs, the corporate community, City of Mesquite employees and non-profit groups still held a successful event. The City of Mesquite wants to thank all the volunteers that helped make this year’s event happen.
Addressing Mesquite Day has spun-off into Helping Others in Mesquite Everyday (HOME). It is an initiative to support neighborhood revitalization and redevelopment in the Mesquite community. HOME embraces the spirit of the highly successful Addressing Mesquite Day on a continuous basis. HOME is made possible through a collaborative partnership between Keep Mesquite Beautiful, the City of Mesquite and community volunteers.
