Mesquite, TX – September 24, 2019 – Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. (KMB) held its semi-annual Trash Bash cleanup event Sept. 21. More than 600 participants cleaned up an estimated 3.25 tons of trash from 33 locations around the city.
Following the cleanup, KMB sponsored an appreciation picnic at City Lake Aquatic Center, serving 150 pizzas to volunteers and delivering 11 pizzas to volunteers unable to attend the picnic. Volunteers included elementary, middle and high school groups, Boy and Girl Scout troops and families. Mayor Stan Pickett and Councilmembers Tandy Boroughs and Bruce Archer also joined the cleanup. Weather remained beautiful for the event.
KMB would like to thank all volunteers who participated in this year’s Trash Bash events. If you volunteered in litter cleanup with KMB, consider registering your participation to help our city become eligible for grants and other assistance for beautification, recycling education and litter prevention. Remember, litter happens every day. You can help control litter in our community by properly bagging trash, keeping a litter bag in your car and disposing of waste in the proper receptacles. KMB also encourages residents to report littering when it happens. The Texas Department of Transportation’s Report-A-Litterer app (available on web, App Store and Google Play) allows you to report littering anonymously.
