Mesquite, TX - Aug. 28, 2019 - Mesquite BBQ has announced the donation of 5% of all sales on Friday, August 30 and Saturday, August 31 to the Mesquite Veterans Memorial campaign. This includes all food sales, catering orders and merchandise purchases. The restaurant will be open 10:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. both days and is located at 145 E. Davis Street. Mesquite BBQ owners Dustin and Melanie Palmer said, “Mesquite BBQ has been a fixture in this community since 1959. We have been blessed to serve this community some of the best BBQ in Texas. Now, it’s our chance to give back to those military veterans and their families who served our country. And to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.”
In September, Mesquite BBQ will celebrate 60 years in business. Dustin and Melanie are planning a major celebration for September 21.The Palmers are selling Mesquite BBQ caps and commemorative 60th anniversary t-shirts, and plan to donate 5% of all sales from those items purchased on Labor Day Weekend to the veterans memorial fund.
The Mesquite community is raising funds to build the Mesquite Veterans Memorial to honor all military veterans and their families. The memorial will be located near City Lake Park. The design plans are for the memorial to feature a decomposed granite walkway the leads up to a plaza area with recognition of the military branches and a dedication plaque to those from Mesquite killed while in service. A large bronze eagle, flag poles and accent lighting will also be featured. The ground breaking for the memorial is scheduled for November and a dedication is planned for 2020.
