Mesquite, TX – July 31, 2019 – On August 1 the Mesquite Animal Shelter will celebrate “DOGust” Universal Birthday for Shelter Dogs with pupcakes for all shelter dogs and free cupcakes for all shelter customers while supplies last. August 1 is known as “DOGust” as a make-up birthday celebration for adopted and rescued dogs whose owners can’t pinpoint their exact birthdays. The shelter is located at 1650 Gross Road and is open Thursday from 11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Jeanne Saadi, Mesquite’s Manager of Animal Services, said, “Everybody loves a birthday party and birthday cake. DOGust is one way we can bring attention to the available dogs we have in the shelter. And we will celebrate our 90 percent save rate for the past two years for all animals that have entered our shelter. We are proud of our dedicated shelter staff, extraordinary volunteers and amazing rescue partners who have teamed up to achieve that phenomenal save rate. The event will also allow us to thank our customers for their support.”
The Mesquite Animal Shelter has been doing special promotions this summer to encourage pet adoptions. One promotion includes discounted dog adoptions of $10 per jar of peanut butter or jelly donated at the shelter for local food pantries. The effort has raised hundreds of jars for Sharing Life Community Outreach and Mesquite Social Services for the summertime “Spread the Love” campaign. That campaign ends August 3. The shelter also has a special $5 cat adoption this summer.
Last year the Mesquite Animal Shelter took in more than 6,000 animals regardless of their condition.
