Mesquite, TX – May 9, 2019 – The Mesquite Firefighters Association will hold their annual Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) “Fill the Boot” donation drive at various Mesquite street intersections on May 10, 17 and 24.
At the May 6 City Council meeting, Mayor Stan Pickett helped kick off the campaign by making the first donation. Mayor Picket said, “I would encourage all of our citizens to participate and help out. It’s a worthy cause.”
Motorists can participate by dropping donations into Mesquite firefighters’ boots. Every dollar raised helps fund research for various diseases including muscular dystrophy and amyotrophic laterals sclerosis. Donations also send thousands of children to summer camps sponsored by MDA each year. Last year, firefighters across the country collected more than $24 million to save and improve the lives of MDA families.
For a safe and successful fundraising drive, please be on the lookout for firefighters at intersections during the month of May. Visit firefighters.mda.org to learn more about the national Fill the Boot campaign.
