Books

The Mesquite Public Library System maintains a diverse collection of materials. We have books available in these areas:

  • Reference Collection – The library’s reference collection contains those materials which are not checked out of the library. Here you would find books such as encyclopedias, medical dictionaries, literature criticism, and business directories.
  • Fiction and Genre Collections - The Mesquite Public Library System has a large collection of popular fiction for adults, including special collections of mysteries, westerns, and science fiction titles.
  • Large Print – Both locations have collections of large print books for those readers with vision deficiencies. Books available in large print include biographies, westerns, romances, adventure and general interest novels.
  • Spanish Language – Our Spanish language collection includes books written in Spanish as well as bilingual books in Spanish and English. They are available for both adults and children.
  • Children’s Books – We have a large collection of children’s books to help your child develop a love of reading. Our collections of picture books and junior fiction and nonfiction include award-winning books like Bluebonnet Award books, Caldecott Award books and Newbery Medal Award books.
  • Young Adult Books – Teen readers can find growing collections of books specifically written for them. Both libraries provide a collection of fiction geared specifically for teenage reading interests. The Young Adult collection includes those books which have been included on the Texas Lone Star Reading List, a recommended list of books for 6th, 7th and 8th graders.
  • Audiobooks – While not physical books, audiobooks on CDs, Playaways or downloadable from cloudLibrary and Libby all allow you to enjoy your favorite authors on the go. Audiobooks are available for both adults and children.
  • Playaways –  Each Playaway is a self-contained unit with an entire audiobook pre-loaded on it. Simply plug in earbuds, insert a AAA battery and enjoy!
  • eBooks – Download eBooks and eAudiobooks from cloudLibrary and Libby. The Mesquite Public Library System is a member of the Texas cloudLink consortium and the Northeast Texas Digital Consortium which provides our library cardholders access to a wide-ranging collection of fiction and nonfiction titles. These titles can be downloaded to your portable device.
