Neighborhood Services presents quarterly report

Neighborhood Services presented its quarterly report at the Dec. 2 City Council meeting. The department noted an 89% voluntary compliance rate with all environmental code enforcement cases. Watch the presentation. Volunteers in the City’s Code Ambassadors program continue to play an important role in code enforcement. City of Mesquite earns Heart Safe Community designation

City of Mesquite earned a Heart Safe Community designation from the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council. Less than 20 cities have the designation, which highlights a community for its efforts to protect citizens from the effects of heart disease and sudden cardiac death. Read more.

Donate a toy to Santa Cop on Dec. 7

Make the season brighter for a local child by donating a new, unwrapped toy to the Mesquite Police Department Santa Cop Toy Program. Drop off toys or a $10 donation on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the 22nd Annual Santa Cop Toy Parade sponsored by Crossroads Riders Chapter of Christian Motorcyclist Association and Santa Cops of Mesquite. The event opens at 9 a.m. at First United Methodist Church. You also can donate a toy at the Agape Santa Cop Toy Drive from 1 to 4 p.m. at Agape Home Healthcare. View the flyer.

Christmas in the Park Dec. 7-8

Mesquite continues its holiday kick off during Christmas in the Park from 1 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8. The event takes place at Westlake Park, 601 Gross Road. Activities include free carnival games and crafts, marshmallow roasting, pictures with Santa, free cookies and hot chocolate. Admission and parking are free. Learn more.

Council District 1 runoff election is Dec. 14
