Register to vote at certain City facilities through Oct. 4

The Mesquite City Council recently passed an ordinance to establish designated voter registration sites at certain City facilities. Through Oct. 4, citizens can register to vote at the following locations: the Parks and Recreation Administration Office, 1515 N. Galloway Ave.; the Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive; and the North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Drive. Visit for hours of service and more information.

Front Street

Mesquite City Council approves $5.5 million Downtown Mesquite project

The Mesquite City Council approved a construction contract for the Downtown Mesquite infrastructure project, known as Front Street Station, during the July 15 Regular Meeting. The $5.5 million project will improve infrastructure such as drainage and lighting, add more than 80 new parking spaces, and will create an event space, performance pavilion as well as a pocket park that will serve as a pass-through from Front Street to Main Street. Monthly Sales Tax Report

The July sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of May, for the City of Mesquite, were 0.3 percent below the amount reported for the same period last year.  Year-to-date sales tax collections for the City are trending almost 2 percent above last year’s collections. Sales tax contributes 27 percent of the total revenue used to support the General Fund. The City uses the General Fund for services including police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries, neighborhood services and public works. Visit for more information.

Several department directors presented their strategies and budget priorities for Fiscal Year 2020 during the July 15 City Council Pre-Meeting. The City Council Budget Workshop for Fiscal Year 2020 will be held on July 19 and 20, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Elements International donates $2,500 to Mesquite Veterans Memorial project

On July 15, Elements International presented $2,500 to the City Council in support of the Mesquite Veterans Memorial project. The Veterans Memorial is a community-based campaign to raise awareness and funding for the design and construction of a new memorial to honor all military veterans and their families. The City’s budget was featured at Town Hall Tuesday on July 16 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Attendees learned about the City budget and operations, and had the opportunity to offer input as the City Council prepares for their annual budget retreat to plan the Fiscal Year 2020 budget. STAR Transit to hold July 22
public meeting

On July 22, STAR Transit will hold a public meeting to obtain citizen input regarding transportation in Mesquite, including changes to the Mesquite COMPASS route and the addition of Mobility on Demand. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. Transportation to the meeting is available within the Mesquite city limits. Next small business workshop to be held on July 23

A series of workshops for the small business owner or dreamer called “Entrepreneurship to the Fourth Power” is currently being offered. The next session, Money: Where it is and How to Get It, will be held on July 23, 4:30 - 7:30 p.m., at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Mesquite Animal Services offers Spread the Love dog adoption special

Through August 3, Mesquite Animal Services will offer $10 off dog adoptions with the donation of a jar of peanut butter or jelly to the Spread the Love campaign. A maximum of five jars may be donated for a total of $50 off each adoption. Donations must be brought to Mesquite Animal Services, 1650 Gross Road, at the time of adoption. Cats may currently be adopted for $5 each. Adoption fees includes sterilization, vaccinations and microchipping. Call 972-216-6283 for more information.
