Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade and Community Celebration scheduled on Jan. 19

The community is invited to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade and Community Celebration on Jan. 19. The parade begins at 10 a.m. in Downtown Mesquite followed by a 2 p.m. community celebration at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. The Just for Kids program is a series of free interactive events that introduce children to the arts presented by the Mesquite Arts Council. This month’s event features Peeler & Rose, an interactive marionette variety show filled with novelty songs and trick puppetry. City reports sales tax collections for November

The State Comptroller’s Office reported a 5.4 percent decrease in the City’s sales tax collections for the month of January compared to the same period last year. January’s report is based on sales reported by local businesses during the month of November. For details on the City’s budget, visit

City adjusts services for Jan. 21 Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday

City services and facility hours will adjust on Monday, Jan. 21, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Solid Waste Division will not collect household garbage or recycling. Service will resume on residents' next scheduled collection day. The Mesquite animal shelter and both libraries will be closed. City offers youth Play Day camp on Jan. 21

City offers youth Play Day camp on Jan. 21

The City of Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department will offer a Play Day camp for children in grades K - 6th on Jan. 21, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Dunford and Rutherford recreation centers. Participants must bring a water bottle and sack lunch. Cost is $16 per child. Advance registration is required. For details, call 972-216-6260.

The Amazing Acro-cats Featuring Tuna and the Rock Cats are a troupe of touring performing house cats. This one-of-a-kind, two-hour performance features talented domesticated house cats that roll on balls, ride skateboards, jump through hoops and more. Mesquite Code Ambassadors Orientation is scheduled on Jan. 31

Mesquite Code Ambassadors is a volunteer-based program created to assist City code enforcement officers with specific code violations. Code Ambassadors survey assigned neighborhoods in City-provided vehicles for code violations viewable from the right-of-way. The next Code Ambassadors orientation is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in the Mesquite Arts Center Rehearsal Hall, 1527 N.
