Possession and use of fireworks in Mesquite is illegal, as well as discharging firearms into the air. Fines range from $500 to $4,000 with the illegal discharge of a firearm also carrying the possible penalty of up to one year in jail. To report firearm violations, call non-emergency police dispatch at 972-285-6336. Please do not call 911 unless there is a life-threatening emergency and immediate help is required from police, fire or paramedics. STAR Transit offices are closed Jan. 1. This includes demand response and Terrell’s same-day service. Kaufman Trolley, The Link, Terrell Route 803, Balch Springs Midtown Express, Seagoville Express, Hutchins Shuttle Route 401, DeSoto Route 501 and COMPASS (DART Express Bus Route 282) will operate regular schedules Dec. 31. Monthly sales tax report

The State Comptroller’s Office reported a 6.9 percent increase in the City’s sales tax collections for the month of December compared to the same period last year. December’s report is based on sales reported by local businesses during the month of October.
