City supports Mesquite ISD efforts to help Dickinson ISD

The Mesquite Independent School District (MISD) has launched a district-wide fundraiser for the staff and students of Dickinson Independent School District (DISD) near Houston. Dickinson is a small community with a school district that closely mirrors our own. The entire community was ravaged by the rains from Hurricane Harvey. Mesquite to hold 9/11 Ceremony
at Freedom Park

The City of Mesquite invites the public to attend a 9/11 Ceremony at Freedom Park, located at 1527 N. Galloway Avenue, at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 11. The program will include various presentations and students from the Mesquite High School Show Choir, which will sing the Star Spangled Banner.

Mesquite Charter Review Committee to host public meeting on
September 13

The Mesquite Charter Review Committee will host a public meeting to gather input on a review of the City Charter. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 13, at 7 p.m. at McDonald Middle School cafeteria, located at 2930 N. Town East Boulevard. The public is encouraged to attend. The Mesquite City Council created the advisory committee to review, receive public input and provide a report to the City Council on possible changes to the City of Mesquite Charter. Keep Mesquite Beautiful to host semi-annual Trash Bash on September 16

Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. (KMB) will host its semi-annual Don’t Mess with Texas Trash Bash on Saturday, September 16, from 9 a.m. - noon at City Lake Park, located at 403 S. Galloway Avenue. KMB invites volunteers to help keep our community clean by clearing littered areas. Volunteer groups or individuals wishing to participate should pre-register by completing the registration and release forms at or by calling the KMB Office at 972-329-8331.

Mesquite launches new crime mapping system; re-registration required for crime alerts

Mesquite recently launched a new and improved crime mapping system to provide better access to information. Users of the former crime mapping system will need to re-register to receive email crime alerts. To register, click on the "Sign up for crime alerts" button in the upper right hand corner on the homepage at http://communitycrimemap.comThe online crime mapping website provides the locations of crimes reported within Mesquite city limits.  The site also allows users to sign up for crime alerts in their area. Users can sign up for daily, weekly, or monthly email alerts about crime occurring within a certain distance of an address of interest, such as a home, workplace or school. 


Mesquite and TxDOT partner to enforce highway safety

The City of Mesquite and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will share in the funding of a program, which promotes highway safety by hiring off-duty police officers to enforce speed limits on highways. The Mesquite City Council passed a resolution accepting a $38,144 Speed Safety Grant for the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) during the City Council meeting held on September 5. The STEP program is one of many City initiatives to improve traffic safety. Visit to learn more.


Mesquite receives Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting

The City of Mesquite has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report for fiscal year 2016. This achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. This is the 38th consecutive year the City has received the award.
