Mesquite City Council to meet July 3

On Monday, July 3, the Mesquite City Council Pre-Meeting will begin at 4 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B at City Hall, located at 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The City Council Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber. Attendees are encouraged to bring a jar of peanut butter or jelly to support the Spread the Love campaign, which helps feed children in need. Mesquite begins increased enforcement against the illegal use
of fireworks and celebratory gunfire

Mesquite’s Police Department and Fire Department will launch joint deployment teams to enforce laws against the use of fireworks and celebratory gunfire within city limits during the July 4th holiday weekend. The public can report violations by calling the police non-emergency number 972-285-6336 or through the Celebrate Safely icon on the City’s mobile app MesquiteTX. It is illegal to possess or use fireworks, or discharge firearms within city limits. Punishment ranges from $500 to $4,000 depending on the offense, with the illegal discharge of a firearm also carrying the possible penalty of up to one year in jail. City of Mesquite and STAR Transit closed on July 4

All City of Mesquite offices and facilities will be closed on Tuesday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday with the exception of the Mesquite Metro Airport. Trash and recycling will not be collected. Collection will occur on residents’ next scheduled collection day. For more details on City holiday closures, visit

STAR Transit will also be closed on Tuesday, July 4. This includes the DART Express Bus Route 282 (COMPASS), Balch Springs Midtown Express, Seagoville Express, Hutchins Shuttle and the Kaufman Trolley.  These routes will resume service on July 5. Public hearing on STAR Transit fare restructure to be held on July 10

A public hearing on the proposal to amend STAR Transit’s fare structure will be held on Monday, July 10, at 6 p.m. at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Avenue. Anyone wishing to make comments is invited to attend and express their views. Transportation to the meeting is available, but space is limited and advance booking is required. Addressing Mesquite Day job

On Saturday, October 7, the Mesquite Ministerial Alliance and the City of Mesquite will host Addressing Mesquite Day. This event matches community volunteer groups with homeowners in need of extra assistance. Job requests are only accepted for owner-occupied homes and priority is given to seniors, residents with disabilities or veterans. Historic Mesquite, Inc. to participate in Blue Star Museums program

Mesquite's two historic house museums, managed by Historic Mesquite, Inc. (HMI), have been accepted into the Blue Star Museums program. The program is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense. Through Labor Day, any active service men and women or military veterans, plus up to five family members, can receive free admission during regular tour hours. Walmart Neighborhood Market
grand opening to be held July 5

The newest Walmart Neighborhood Market is opening its doors on July 5. The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting on Wednesday, July 5 at 7:15 a.m. at the new grocery store, located at 1951 Military Parkway in Mesquite.
