Dallas Morning News features the Mesquite Police Department and the importance of Lock, Take, Hide

The Mesquite Police Department (MPD) and the Lock, Take and Hide crime prevention program were recently featured by The Dallas Morning News. The MPD recently solved an extensive identity theft case involving perpetrators who searched for and took advantage of unlocked vehicles. The case highlights the importance of the Lock, Take and Hide crime prevention program promoted by the department. Unlocked cars account for an estimated 85 percent of Burglary of a Vehicle offenses. Mesquite video series promotes locally owned businesses

The City of Mesquite has produced a series of video public service announcements to promote locally owned businesses in Mesquite. These video announcements support the culture that is nurtured by the City for small businesses to succeed and can be viewed at Did You Know. In addition, Mayor Stan Pickett toured four local businesses during National Small Business Week and lent a hand at each location. Mesquite Independent School District announces major awards

For the second year in a row, West Mesquite High School earned a silver distinction on the U.S. News & World Report's Best High Schools list. West Mesquite placed in the top 10 percent of Texas high schools. Poteet High School, which earned bronze in 2016, moved up to silver distinction on the 2017 list and ranked in the top 8.8 percent of Texas public schools. Mesquite High School and North Mesquite High School earned bronze distinction in 2017. The magazine reviewed nearly 28,500 U.S. public high schools; 589 Texas schools made the rankings. There are nearly 2,000 public high schools in Texas.

Mesquite Recycles Day to be held
on May 13

Keep Mesquite Beautiful (KMB) and the City of Mesquite will offer Mesquite Recycles Day on Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. - noon in the front parking lot of Poteet High school, 3300 Poteet Drive.  Vehicles should enter the event through the front entrance of the parking lot on Galloway Avenue. The 2017 Addressing Mesquite day will be held on Saturday, October 7. Mayor Stan Pickett announced the date at the 14th Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast held on the National Day of Prayer on May 4 at Family Cathedral in Mesquite.
