Monthly sales tax report

The State Comptroller’s Office reported a 1.8 percent decline in the City’s sales tax collections for the month of December. December’s report is based on sales reported by local businesses during the month of October. Last year, the City collected a record high of $32.4 million in sales tax and is projecting to collect slightly less this year at $32.3 million. Christmas in the Park shuttle service and event information

Christmas in the Park will be held on Saturday, December 10 from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday, December 11 from 1 - 6 p.m. at Westlake Park, 421 Gross Road. Admission and parking is free, but some activities and refreshments will have a fee. Parking is available in the grass field across from Westlake Park, 421 Gross Road. Mesquite Fire Department accepting firefighter applications

The Mesquite Fire Department is accepting applications for the position of firefighter. Applications will be accepted online now through January 27, 2017. MPD reminds residents to use
Safe Exchange Zone for
face-to-face transactions

The Mesquite Police Department (MPD) encourages residents to use the Safe Exchange Zone for face-to-face internet sales transactions this holiday season, and avoid any transaction if a buyer or seller refuses to meet there. The Safe Exchange Zone is located in the front parking lot of the Mesquite Police Station, 777 N. Galloway Avenue. The area is monitored by 24-hour video surveillance and located in front of the Police Station lobby where an officer is on duty 24 hours a day. The safe zone consists of two clearly marked, reserved parking spaces for citizens to conduct business in a safe environment.

Recreation After School Programs offered during Christmas break

All day Recreation After School Programs will be offered during the Christmas break. Session 1 will be held Monday - Friday, December 19 - 23 from 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. Session 2 will be held Monday - Friday, December 26 - 30 from 7:30 a.m. - 6 p.m. The fee is $16 per day or $75 per week. Payment is due the Thursday before camp or a $10 late fee will be applied. Participants must bring a water bottle and sack lunch. Protect the four P’s when temperatures drop

The Office of Emergency Management advises residents to take precautions when temperatures drop. When preparing for cold weather and potential hazards, remember the four P’s: people, pets, pipes and plants.

People should dress appropriately and check on elderly family members or friends to ensure they have proper heating and warm clothes.
Pets should have a warm place to take shelter.
Pipes should be wrapped if exposed to prevent freezing and bursting.
Plants should be moved indoors or covered.
