Monthly sales tax report

The State Comptroller’s Office reported a 1.8 percent decline in the City’s sales tax collections for the month of December.  December’s report is based on sales reported by local businesses during the month of October. Last year, the City collected a record high of $32.4 million in sales tax and is projecting to collect slightly less this year at $32.3 million. Therefore, the slight decline in sales tax was anticipated. For more detailed information on how the City uses its sales tax revenue, visit the City’s website at

Protect the four P’s when temperatures drop

The Office of Emergency Management advises residents to take precautions when temperatures drop. When preparing for cold weather and potential hazards, remember the four P’s: people, pets, pipes and plants.

  • People should dress appropriately and check on elderly family members or friends to ensure they have proper heating and warm clothes.
  • Pets should have a warm place to take shelter.
  • Pipes should be wrapped if exposed to prevent freezing and bursting.
  • Plants should be moved indoors or covered.
