City Council to Meet Feb. 16

The Mesquite City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister by either sending an email to sland@cityofmesquite.com or calling 972-329-8388 before 3 p.m. on Feb. 16. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Feb. 16 to the City Secretary. Meeting agendas can be viewed online. The City broadcasts meetings via Facebook Live and at www.cityofmesquite.com/WatchCouncilMeetings.

Correction: Upcoming District Meetings

Councilmember Elizabeth Rodriguez-Ross will host the District 3 meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 24 at North Mesquite High School, 18201 Lyndon B Johnson Fwy. Correction: Councilmembers Andrew Hubacek and B.W. Smith will host the joint District 4 and 5 meeting at 10 a.m. on March 7 in the Clifford Keheley Community Room at the Dallas County Mesquite Government Center, 500 S. Celebrate Black History Month

Throughout February, the City of Mesquite will host events, programs, and activities in recognition of Black History Month. HMI presents Time Travel Tuesdays, a social media series highlighting notable Black residents. Programs are also offered at the Main Library all month long, including one about Black inventors. The Arts Center offers Black History Month–themed youth art kits while supplies last. And don’t miss Parks & Recreation’s special event at Eastfield celebrating with community partners on Feb. 21 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Enjoy food, student music, dance and featured keynote speaker Courtney Brazile. Pothole Blitz and Road Report Update

The City of Mesquite Streets Division recently completed repairs and an asphalt overlay on Calle Hanby, improving roadway conditions for residents and drivers. Similar repairs and an asphalt overlay on Calle Williams are underway and nearing completion. Also, crews repaired 80 potholes during the most recent Pothole Blitz. 9th Annual Neighborhood Summit

The City will host the 9th Annual Neighborhood Summit on Feb. 28 at the Cliff Keheley Community Room in the Mesquite Government Center located at 500 S. Galloway Avenue. Breakfast and networking will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the program starting at 9:30 a.m. We encourage residents, neighborhood leaders and community partners to attend and be part of the conversation about strengthening Mesquite together. Events at the Mesquite Arts Center

February brings live theatre and a festive winter celebration to the Mesquite Arts Center. The Mesquite Arts Theatre presents the stage adaptation of “Murder on the Orient Express,” performing weekends through Feb. 22. Families are also invited to enjoy the Second Annual Winter GLOW Fest on Feb. 14, a free Valentine’s Day evening filled with glowing art, live entertainment, food vendors, and activities for all ages.
