City Council to meet July 7

The Mesquite City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 7, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister by either sending an email to sland@cityofmesquite.com or calling 972-329-8388 before 3 p.m. on July 7. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on July 7 to the City Secretary. Meeting agendas can be viewed online. The City broadcasts meetings via Facebook Live and at www.cityofmesquite.com/WatchCouncilMeetings.

Independence Day information

All City offices will be closed on July 3 and July 4 in observance of Independence Day. Commercial and Residential trash and recycling will be collected on July 3. Commercial and Residential trash will be collected on July 4. Commercial recycling will also be collected, but Residential recycling will not be collected on July 4. As you observe Independence Day, please plan to celebrate safely. Driving while intoxicated (DWI) is dangerous and can result in thousands of dollars in fines, jail time and the revoking of driver's licenses. Also, the possession and use of fireworks in Mesquite is illegal, as is discharging firearms into the air. The penalties for fireworks and gunfire can be costly. Report illegal activity by calling the Police hotline at 972-204-4888. You also can report fireworks violations by emailing fireworks@mesquitepolice.org. Discuss budget at Town Hall Tuesday

Learn about the City’s current financial plan and next year's budget at Town Hall Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. on July 15 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. in Training Rooms A&B. Residents are encouraged to share their input by completing the Budget Priorities Citizen Survey by July 11. Project LEAD program accepting applications

The City of Mesquite and Mesquite ISD have partnered to form a leadership development program for local residents called Project LEAD. During the program, participants will develop their leadership skills while learning about how local government and schools work together. Interested residents are encouraged to apply by July 11. National Parks and recreation month banner

July is National Park and Recreation month

Celebrate National Park and Recreation month this July by visiting City of Mesquite parks, pools and recreation centers. There's a wide variety of activities for all ages to enjoy throughout the month. Mesquite Parks and Recreation will also host a special Pop Up event at 10 a.m. on July 12 at the Spray Zone at Clay Mathis Park, 2181 Clay Mathis Road. Come out to the Pop Up for a morning of family fun featuring outdoor games, bubbles, music and free popsicles. For more information, click here.

Theatre, festivals and more around town

Families are invited to Parks and Recreation's Dive-In Movie event at 7 p.m. on July 11 at City Lake Aquatic Center for a special showing of "Moana." Click here for more information. Also, the Mesquite Arts Theatre will present "Grease" from July 18-27 at the Arts Center. For tickets and showtimes, visit mesquiteartstheatre.org. Lastly, Keep Mesquite Beautiful is hosting Monarch Fest!, featuring food and vendors, a live butterfly house, a butterfly costume contest and more. Visit here for details.

Give wisely to the unsheltered

Volunteer at a local charity or donate to agencies providing resources to the homeless. The City offers staff and resources to connect unsheltered individuals with assistance, including transportation to shelters, support agencies and willing family or friends. Donating directly to the unsheltered may contribute to the cycle of homelessness. Learn ways to help at www.cityofmesquite.com/Homeless.

The new and improved myMesquite app is out now for Android and iOS devices. The new app offers a streamlined system for reporting concerns in your community, tracking the progress of reports and getting in touch with City departments directly.
