Celebrate Black History MonthThroughout February, the City of Mesquite will celebrate Black History Month with events to honor the contributions of African Americans. Become immersed in the storytelling of drummer and storyteller Baba Kwasi at 2 p.m. on Feb. 22 at the Mesquite Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive. Get tickets for Daddy Daughter DanceDads and daughters are invited for a “denim and diamonds” themed night of fun at the annual Daddy Daughter Dance on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive. The special event will feature a live DJ, concessions, themed selfie stations and a 360 photobooth. Tickets can be purchased for $20 per person, per session. Register for the Neighborhood SummitThe City of Mesquite is hosting the annual Neighborhood Summit from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on March 1 at Vanguard High School, 4201 Faithon P. Youth Services programs for teensApplications are being accepted through March 31 for two opportunities for high school students in Mesquite. The City’s Youth Services is launching a new Youth Council and teens in grades 9-12 are invited to apply. The council will meet once a month, giving students an opportunity to share their voice and shape the future of our community. Also, applications open for the Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP) for teens ages 16-18. SYIP is a paid internship for high schoolers to work part-time at a local business, nonprofit or the City of Mesquite. Recycled Art Contest and Fashion ShowKeep Mesquite Beautiful is hosting the Recycled Art Contest and Fashion Show at 2 p.m. on March 1 at the Town East Mall. Students of all ages as well as businesses, groups and organizations are invited to show their art and costumes made from recycled materials.
