City Council to meet on Oct. 7

The Mesquite City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person.

Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister by either sending an email to sland@cityofmesquite.com or calling 972-329-8388 before 3 p.m. on Oct. 7. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Oct. 7 to the City Secretary.

Meeting agendas can be viewed online. The City broadcasts meetings via Facebook Live and at www.cityofmesquite.com/WatchCouncilMeetings.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is Sept. 15-Oct. 15, and the City of Mesquite has several special events and recognitions planned.

Join the fiesta with Lotería Nights at a local restaurant, sample the wares of Hispanic vendors at our Downtown Farmers Market, explore the work of Hispanic artists at the Mesquite Arts Center, and experience cultural performances and art workshops at both Library branches.

District Meetings

Upcoming District Meetings in October

City Councilmember B.W. Smith will host the District 5 Meeting at 10 a.m. on Oct. 12 at Rutherford Recreation Center, 900 Rutherford Drive.

City Councilmember Tandy Boroughs will host the District 4 Meeting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 17 at Evans Recreation Center, 1116 Hillcrest St.


Residents are invited to come hear updates and meet their Councilmember.

Tickets on sale for Mesquite Meander

Tickets are now on sale for Historic Mesquite, Inc.’s Mesquite Meander, an unforgettable outdoor, theatrical living-history tour through Mesquite Cemetery.

This annual experience features local actors portraying residents from the community’s past. Tickets are $15 per person. The Meander offers tours starting every 10 minutes that run approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Tour times on Oct. 11 start at 6 p.m. with last tour starting at 7:30 p.m. Tour times on Oct. 12 start at 5:30 p.m. with last tour starting at 7 p.m.

Mesquite Cemetery is located at 400 Holley Park Drive. Attendees should note that the Mesquite Meander is an outdoor event in a historic cemetery, so there may be areas of uneven ground and gravel walkways. Mesquite Arts Theatre presents "Frankenstein"

MAT presents "Frankenstein"

Run date just extended! Mesquite Arts Theatre presents “Frankenstein” on stage at the Mesquite Arts Center from Oct. 11 to Nov. 3. 

Nick Dear’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic gothic novel retells the well-known story from the point of view of the Creature. The Creature is brought to life by Victor Frankenstein, a troubled scientist. When the bewildered Creature is abandoned in a hostile world by his horror-struck maker, it sets into motion a spiral of catastrophic events.

Teen Turnout

Teen Turnout on Oct. 12

The City is hosting the next Teen Turnout event at 6 p.m. on Oct. 12 at Dunford Recreation Center, 1015 Green Canyon Drive.

This free gathering is part of a series of events designed for youth ages 12 to 17, which will include music, games, open gym, video games, food, crafts and more.
