The City of Mesquite will host the State of the Community on Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. The event starts at 6 p.m. with a panel discussion that will include Mesquite Mayor Daniel Alemán, Jr., Mesquite ISD Superintendent Dr. Ángel Rivera and Mesquite Chamber of Commerce President Alexander Helgar. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the evening will end with a short reception.

Get Fit Mesquite: Demystifying the Secrets of Financial Analysis workshop


Join Equitable financial advisors on Wednesday, Jan. 24, in Training Room A for how to demystify financial analysis. This session teaches the 2-3-4 method of "two pyramids, three buckets, and four boxes" that will help guide participants through the process of financial analysis, portfolio allocation and product choices that most people find mysterious and confusing. Get Fit Mesquite is a self-improvement program that encourages employees and residents to practice health and wellness physically, mentally and financially. First "hybrid" Town Hall Tuesday to be held on Jan. 23 


On Tuesday, Jan. 23, the City will host its first "hybrid" Town Hall Tuesday. The meeting, which will focus on “City Hall 101,” will be an in-person gathering that will include some online components. Representatives from Neighborhood Services, Animal Shelter, Public Works, Solid Waste and Community Engagement departments will present and answer questions. Residents can submit questions through an online survey before the meeting, and during the meeting, those who watch via the Facebook live stream can post questions. Moderators will answer as many questions as possible, but some questions may not be answered during live stream. Visit bit.ly/THTJan23rd to submit questions before the meeting. Daddy Daughter Dance on Feb. 17


Get ready to have a groovy time at the City of Mesquite’s annual Daddy Daughter Dance on Feb. 17. The disco-themed event will be held in two sessions at the Mesquite Convention Center, located at 1700 Rodeo Drive. Session 1 is from 4-6 p.m. and Session 2 from 7-9 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $20 per person, per session. The dance is for all ages and includes light refreshments, live music, professional photography, themed selfie-stations and a raffle to win an American Girl doll. Souvenirs will be available for purchase, including custom stuffed teddy bears provided by Teddy Bear Mobile of North Dallas. Tickets are limited and will not be sold at the door. Temporary help available for the unsheltered through WARM


When temperatures start dropping, unsheltered people in Mesquite have a resource. WARM (Weather Activated Relief for Mesquite) is a temporary shelter for individuals who are unsheltered during times of extreme weather conditions based on the National Weather Service Forecast. If you or someone you know is currently unsheltered and in need of assistance, please call 972-779-0568. WARM is sponsored by Sharing Life Community Outreach, the Mesquite Ministerial Alliance and the City of Mesquite, but help is needed to pay for hotel rooms.
