Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. parade and celebration On Saturday, Jan. 13, the City of Mesquite along with the Mesquite NAACP will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the annual MLK Jr. Parade and Celebration. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade through downtown hosted by the Mesquite NAACP. The celebration of Dr. King’s achievements will continue at 1 p.m. with a community gathering co-hosted by Mesquite ISD, the City of Mesquite and the Mesquite NAACP at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Holiday closures on Jan. 15 In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, all City offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 15, with the exception of the Mesquite Metro Airport, and the Compost Facility and Convenience Center. Recycling will not be collected. Recycling collection will resume on next scheduled collection day. Trash will be collected. Town Hall Tuesday to be held onJan. 23 On Tuesday, Jan. 23, the City will host a Town Hall Tuesday. Every Town Hall Tuesday features a new topic and includes activities to interact with City staff. The topic on Jan. 23 will be “City Hall 101.” Representatives from departments including Neighborhood Services, Animal Services, Public Works, and Solid Waste will give an overview of services and resources available to residents. The Town Hall will also include a question-and-answer session. The event will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave.

Mesquite to host series of events in 2024 for teens The City of Mesquite is hosting a series of nine free events for teens in 2024, starting on Jan. 13. The events, called Teen Turnout, are designed for students ages 12-17. Activities will include music, games, open gym, food, video games, crafts and more. Teen Turnout will be held on various Saturdays throughout the year at different locations across Mesquite. The first Teen Turnout for 2024 will be from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Rutherford Recreation Center, 900 Rutherford Drive. Daddy Daughter Dance Get your groove on at the annual Daddy Daughter Dance on Saturday, Feb. 17. The theme this year is Disco. The dance is for all ages and includes light snacks, refreshments, live music, professional photography, and themed selfie-stations. The dance will be held at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive. Tickets are limited and will not be sold at the door. Advanced ticket purchase is required. Tickets: $20 per person, per session.
