Mesquite to host Patriot Day memorial event on 9/11 The City of Mesquite will host a short Patriot Day memorial ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, at Mesquite Freedom Park with prayers and remembrances to honor those who lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks. The public event will include the Mesquite Police and Fire Honor Guards, Mesquite Fire Department Pipes and Drum Corps, and performances by students from Mesquite Independent School District. Mesquite Freedom Park, which features an actual piece of steel from one of the original Twin Towers destroyed on 9/11 in New York City, is located on the north lawn of the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave.

Resident input sought through Mesquite Community Survey This fall, the City of Mesquite will conduct a Community Survey to get input from its citizens on programs and services. In the first phase through October, Mesquite residents selected at random will receive an invitation by text message, letter or social media to participate in the survey questionnaire. The online survey will be open to all residents later in November. All responses will be kept confidential. The survey will be administered by ETC Institute, a national leader in conducting customer satisfaction surveys for government organizations. 107 Mesquite Animal Shelter pets find new homes The Mesquite Animal Shelter placed 107 pets in homes in August, national Clear the Shelters month. Animal Services hosted a special one-day event on Aug. 26 with free adoptions and offered discounted adoption fees throughout the month when people donated jars of jelly, peanut butter or seed butter to the City’s Spread the Love campaign. To keep the momentum going, Animal Services is offering $25 adoption fees for all available dogs and cats throughout the month of September as a “Fall in Love with Your Next Pet” special. Free electric vehicle charging offered in two Mesquite locations The City of Mesquite is offering free electric vehicle charging in two locations for the next year. The City received a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation as part of the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement program. The grant covered the cost of the purchase and installation of three dual-port Level II Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers. The grant also will provide free charging to the public through August 2024. EV charging stations locations:
- Mesquite Municipal Center, 1515 N. Galloway Ave. – Two EV chargers with the capacity to charge four vehicles
- Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. – One EV charger with the capacity to charge two vehicles
