Happy Labor Day

City facilities closed on Labor Day


Please remember all City of Mesquite offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4 for Labor Day with the exception of the Mesquite Metro Airport and Recreation Centers. No trash or recycling will be collected. Collection will resume on residents’ next scheduled collection day. City Council to meet Sept. 5


Mesquite City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister by either sending an email to sland@cityofmesquite.com or calling 972-216-6244 before 3 p.m. on Sept. 5. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Sept. 5 to the City Secretary. View meeting agendas online. Mesquite to host Patriot Day memorial event on 9/11


The City of Mesquite will host a short Patriot Day memorial ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 11, at Mesquite Freedom Park with prayers and remembrances to honor those who lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks. The public event will include the Mesquite Police and Fire Honor Guards, Mesquite Fire Department Pipes and Drum Corps, and performances by students from Mesquite Independent School District. Mesquite Freedom Park, which features an actual piece of steel from one of the original Twin Towers destroyed on 9/11 in New York City, is located on the North Lawn of the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave.

Free electric vehicle charging offered in two Mesquite locations


The City of Mesquite is offering free electric vehicle charging in two locations for the next year. The City received a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation as part of the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement program. The grant covered the cost of the purchase and installation of three dual-port Level II Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers. The grant also will provide free charging to the public through August 2024. EV charging stations locations:

  • Mesquite Municipal Center, 1515 N. Galloway Ave. – Two EV chargers with the capacity to charge four vehicles
  • Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. – One EV charger with the capacity to charge two vehicles

Mesquite, MISD, Balch Springs create leadership program for residents


The City of Mesquite, Mesquite Independent School District and the City of Balch Springs have collaborated to form a leadership development program for citizens called Project LEAD. Program organizers are looking for motivated residents interested in learning about leadership, growing as a civic leader and contributing to the growth of their cities and school district. Those selected to participate in Project LEAD will commit to attending four sessions. Classes will meet from 6:30-8 p.m. on Oct. 17, Nov. 7, Dec. 5 and Jan. 16. Guts & Gory Zombie Fun 


Zombies have been reported to be taking over the park at Camp Rorie Galloway. Do you have what it takes to survive and escape? Experience a zombie apocalypse at the “Guts and Gory” Zombie Run and challenge on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon at Camp Rorie Galloway, 3100 Lawson Road. KMB to host 35th Anniversary

Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. (KMB) will celebrate its 35th anniversary from 6 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive, with dinner, drinks, live music, dancing, an auction, and much more. VIP reception starts at 6 p.m. general admission begins at 7 p.m. VIP tickets cost $100 each, while general admission tickets cost $75 each. Tickets may be purchased online at Butterfly Ball.
