City Council to meet Aug. 7


Mesquite City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Aug. 7, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must pre-register by either sending an email to sland@cityofmesquite.com or calling 972-216-6244 before 3 p.m. on Aug. 7. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Aug. 7 to the City Secretary. The City broadcasts meetings via Facebook Live and at www.cityofmesquite.com/WatchCouncilMeetings.

Pop Up at the Park


Celebrate the conclusion of national Park and Recreation month at our Pop Up at the Park event at Mesquite’s new spray pad at Clay Mathis Park. This free, family-friendly event will be from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 29. The celebration will include free popsicles, games, and more at the Spray Zone, which officially opened in May. A spray pad is an interactive playground with several water features. Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/PARD  for more information.

Doggie Splash Day


Mesquite Parks and Recreation presents Doggie Splash Day on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 9 a.m. to noon at Vanston Pool located at 2913 Oates Drive. Dogs and their owners will have the opportunity to swim together and compete in contests and races for prizes. Pre-register online at www.cityofmesquite.com/DoggieSplashDay and receive a free puppaccino. Entry fees are $5 for one pet and one owner, $2 for each additional pet, and $1 for spectators. Pet owners must bring proof of current vaccinations.

Mesquite Summer Youth Interns make impact on community


Twenty-six high school students have completed the City of Mesquite’s Summer Youth Internship Program, the largest cohort to participate in the initiative. The interns were celebrated and recognized on July 24 for finishing the six-week paid internship program. The teens, ages 15-17, gained experience through job skills and making potential career connections. Each intern received a Certificate of Achievement for completing the program and a letter of recommendation from their supervisors. Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/2023Interns.

Mesquite Animal Shelter to offer free pet adoptions on Aug. 26


The Mesquite Animal Shelter, 1650 Gross Road, is once again participating in the national Clear the Shelters initiative that promotes pet adoption and donations in August. On Saturday, Aug. 26, the Animal Shelter will host a special one-day adoption event, waiving all fees. Shelter pets available for adoption are sterilized, vaccinated and microchipped. To see the pets currently in the shelter, visit www.cityofmesquite.com/AnimalsInTheShelter. Regular operating hours for the shelter are 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The shelter is also open from 1-5:30 p.m. on Saturday and closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.

KMB to host 35th Anniversary

Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. (KMB) will celebrate its 35th anniversary from 6 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive, with dinner, drinks, live music, dancing, an auction, and much more. VIP reception starts at 6 p.m. general admission begins at 7 p.m. VIP tickets cost $100 each, while general admission tickets cost $75 each. Tickets may be purchased online at www.cityofmesquite.com/ButterflyBall.
