19th Annual Addressing Mesquite Day This year’s Addressing Mesquite Day (AMD) will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023. This annual one-day event focuses on home repairs needed by senior citizens, single parents, military veterans, the disabled, and other homeowners in Mesquite. Mesquite Juneteenth Festival and City closures Mesquite’s 4th Annual Juneteenth Festival will be held on Sunday, June 18, from 2 to 6 p.m. The festival will be held at Paschall Park, 1005 New Market Road. National touring blues artist and Dallas local, Fat Daddy, will be the headliner at the event. The festival will also include vendors, food, entertainment, and a KidZone. Mesquite Police Academy graduates seven recruits Today, seven new Mesquite police recruits graduated from the Mesquite Police Department’s (MPD) Basic Peace Officer Course (BPOC). This is the 20th graduation class to complete the internal training program. The MPD has graduated 133 recruits from its BPOC since the training academy began in 2013. According to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement website, there are 2,743 agencies, and only 115 with their own academies, including the MPD BPOC. The seven graduates are Raul Lira, Hunter Harwell, Colby Neumeier, Neftali de Jesus, Clint Kenneth Lara, Mario Barrera, and Trey Ward. The seven new police officers completed 25 weeks of the BPOC program. They will now begin a 17-week field training program before being assigned to patrol duties.

Alcott Station Park Officials from the City of Mesquite and Urban Logistics Realty celebrated the opening of Alcott Station Park on June 14. The unique five-acre park is situated on the east side of Mesquite in the Alcott Station business park that encompasses 1.5 million square feet of industrial space. Alcott Station Park will include a playground for kids, a fitness area for adults, and a dog park. It will be an oasis for employees working nearby as well as the Mesquite community. Companies already committed to moving into Alcott Station include Vehicle Accessories, Inc. and RJW Logistics. Together, these companies will bring in nearly 600 jobs to Mesquite.

1,500 jobs coming to Mesquite through new Canadian Solar plant Mesquite will be home to a new plant that will manufacture solar energy equipment. Canadian Solar, based in the Toronto area, announced today that it has chosen Mesquite to establish its first U.S. facility. The company will invest $250 million into the 91-acre industrial space located at 3000 Skyline Drive making way for 1,500 new jobs. Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/Solar for more information.

Spread the Love campaign launched The City of Mesquite has launched its annual Spread the Love campaign to help feed children in need over the summer break. Residents are encouraged to donate jars of peanut butter and jelly during the collection campaign which runs through Labor Day, Sept. 4. This year, the City also is calling for donations of alternative butters that are safe for kids with nut allergies, such as sunflower seed butter or pumpkin seed butter. Donations are being collected at four locations:
- George A. Venner, Sr. Municipal Center, 1515 N. Galloway Ave.
- Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave.
- Main Library, 300 W. Grubb Drive
- North Branch Library, 2600 Oates Drive
