Cinco De Mayo Celebration to be held on May 6


The City of Mesquite in partnership with the Hispanic Forum of Mesquite (HFM) will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Saturday, May 6, in Downtown Mesquite at Front Street Station, 100 West Front Street. Festivities will begin at noon with Cinco de Mayo-themed activities, food, and performances. This family friendly event is free of charge and parking is available at no charge throughout different locations in downtown Mesquite. Town Hall Tuesday to be held May 9


The City of Mesquite will host its first Spanish-language town hall meeting at from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on May 9 at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Representatives from departments including Neighborhood Services, Animal Services, Code Enforcement, Public Works and Communications will give an overview of their services and resources available to residents. Recycling

Mesquite Recycles Day to be held on May 13 


Mesquite Recycles Day will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 13, at Poteet High School, 3300 Poteet Drive. Items accepted include used cell phones, batteries and accessories, printer cartridges, and rechargeable and alkaline batteries. Local agencies are on-hand to collect used toys and children’s items, clothing, and household items. Onsite shredding is available for home use. E-waste will also be accepted, including computers and peripheral equipment, VCRs. A maximum of four tires per person is permitted. Leak alerts now available on WaterSmart service


The “leak alerts” feature of WaterSmart is now available for all City of Mesquite residents. WaterSmart, a free online service, offers residents detailed information about how to understand and manage household water use, detect potential leaks, and get the most value from every drop of water used. WaterSmart’s real-time leak notification system detects and alerts customers about potential leaks in their home and helps them identify the source of the leak. Mesquite's first spray pad opens at Clay Mathis Park


The City of Mesquite has officially opened its very first spray pad, the Spray Zone at Clay Mathis Park, 2181 Clay Mathis Road. A spray pad is an interactive playground with various water features such as nozzles that spray water upward from a deck and whimsical shower-style features. The Spray Zone is part of a package of improvements to Clay Mathis Park, including new shade structures, additional parking, a new restroom building and updated playground equipment. The Spray Zone will operate from May 1 through Sept. 30 annually. Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/Parks for more information.
