City Council to meet on May 1

Mesquite City Council meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 1, at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister by either sending an email to sland@cityofmesquite.com or calling 972-216-6244 before 3 p.m. on May 1. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on May 1 to the City Secretary. Mesquite Arts Council Tote & Go crafts return

Please join the Mesquite Arts Council as they reintroduce their monthly "Tote & Go" services that provide art kits to the public. This is a free service, with no registration required. Kits are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis and are intended for children three to 17 years old. Children do not need to be present. On Monday, May 1, at noon, Mesquite Arts Center staff will hand out 100+ kits that are inspired by Mother’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, and Star Wars. Visit www.mesquiteartscenter.org for more information.

Cinco De Mayo Celebration to be held on May 6

The City of Mesquite in partnership with the Hispanic Forum of Mesquite (HFM) will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Saturday, May 6, in Downtown Mesquite at Front Street Station, 100 West Front Street. Festivities will begin at noon with Cinco de Mayo-themed activities, food, and performances. Town Hall Tuesday to be held May 9

The City of Mesquite will host its first Spanish-language town hall meeting at from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on May 9 at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Representatives from departments including Neighborhood Services, Animal Services, Code Enforcement, Public Works and Communications will give an overview of their services and resources available to residents. Mesquite Recycles Day to be held on May 13

Mesquite Recycles Day is a twice-annual event held in Mesquite. Items accepted include used cell phones, batteries and accessories, printer cartridges, and rechargeable and alkaline batteries. Local agencies are on-hand to collect used toys and children’s items, clothing, and household items. Onsite shredding is available for home use. E-waste will also be accepted, including computers and peripheral equipment, VCRs. A maximum of four tires per person is permitted. For complete details, visit www.cityofmesquite.com/recyclesday .

Save money and water with WaterSmart

The City of Mesquite has partnered with WaterSmart to offer residents detailed information about household water use. WaterSmart is a free online service that provides tools to understand and manage water use, detect potential leaks, and get the most value from every drop of water used. Mesquite water customers can access all utility data as soon as it becomes available on an hourly, monthly, or daily basis to view water use compared to similar-sized homes by neighborhood, and get access to customized recommendations for how to save water and money.
