City holiday closure on Jan. 16 


City offices and facilities will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr.  holiday on Monday, Jan. 16 except for the Mesquite Metro Airport. No trash or recycling will be collected. Collection will resume on residents' next scheduled collection day.

Mesquite to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. on Jan. 14


On Jan. 14, Mesquite will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade through downtown. The parade is open to any business, organization, church or school that would like to participate. The celebration of Dr. King’s achievements will continue at 1 p.m. with a community celebration co-hosted by the City of Mesquite and the Mesquite Independent School District at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. The event will include speeches, choir presentations, and dances.


Town hall meeting

City to host Town Hall Tuesday on Jan. 10


The City of Mesquite is hosting a town hall meeting on Jan. 10 at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave, in Training Rooms A & B starting at 6:30 p.m. Public safety  and crime prevention programs will be presented by the Mesquite Police Department.

City of Mesquite offers new emergency alert system


The City of Mesquite now offers a way to sign up for emergency and general information and weather alerts. Mesquite Alerts, powered by CodeRED, is a high-speed emergency mass notification service that allows residents to opt in to receive real time notifications. The system sends telephone calls, text messages, and emails to keep residents and businesses safe. In addition, it can target certain areas to alert smaller groups within the City about issues that may directly affect them. Learn more here.


December sales tax

City reports sales tax collections for December


The City of Mesquite December sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of October, was 9.2 percent above the amount reported for the same period last year.  The current increase in sales activity is driven primarily by retail sales, wholesale trade, and manufacturing.  Sales tax contributes 27 percent of the total revenue used to support the General Fund.  The City uses the General Fund for services including police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries, neighborhood services and public works.

City of Mesquite employees donate nearly $40,000 to local charities


City of Mesquite employees raised almost $40,000 for local charities as a part of the 2022 Real. Texas. Giving. Campaign. In the past five years City employees have donated nearly $250,000 through the campaign to local charitable organizations, programs and services that support the Mesquite community. Learn more.

Start the New Year by going green with your live Christmas tree. Live Christmas trees are biodegradable, which means they are easily reused or recycled for mulch and other purposes.
