City Council to meet Jan. 3


Mesquite City Council meets Tuesday, Jan. 3 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. Face coverings are optional for attendees, but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. December 19 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216- 6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Jan. 3 to the following email address: sland@cityofmesquite.com. View meeting agendas online. The City broadcasts meetings via Facebook Live and at www.cityofmesquite.com/WatchCouncilMeetings.

City holiday closure on Jan. 2 


City offices and facilities will be closed for the New Year holiday on Jan. 2.except for the Mesquite Metro Airport and the Animal Shelter. No trash or recycling will be collected. Collection will resume on residents' next scheduled collection day. View a complete list of closures.

Use and possession of fireworks is illegal in Mesquite


As you plan for the New Year 's Eve holiday, please celebrate safely. The possession and use of fireworks in Mesquite are illegal, as is discharging firearms into the air. The penalties for fireworks and gunfire can be costly. Report illegal activity by calling non-emergency dispatch at 972-204-4888. You can also report fireworks violations by emailing fireworks@mesquitepolice.org.

Mesquite to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. on Jan. 14


On Jan. 14, Mesquite will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade through downtown hosted by the Mesquite NAACP. The parade is open to any business, organization, church or school that would like to participate. The celebration of Dr. King’s achievements will continue at 1 p.m. with a community celebration co-hosted by the City of Mesquite, the Mesquite NAACP, and the Mesquite Independent School District at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Ave. The event will include speeches, choir presentations, and dances.


Town hall meeting

City to host Town Hall Tuesday on Jan. 10


The City of Mesquite is hosting a town hall meeting on Jan. 10 at Mesquite City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Ave, in Training Rooms A & B starting at 6:30 p.m. Public safety  and crime prevention programs will be presented by the Mesquite Police Department.

City of Mesquite offers new emergency alert system


The City of Mesquite now offers a way to sign up for emergency and general information and weather alerts. Mesquite Alerts, powered by CodeRED, is a high-speed emergency mass notification service that allows residents to opt in to receive real time notifications. The system sends telephone calls, text messages, and emails to keep residents and businesses safe. In addition, it can target certain areas to alert smaller groups within the City about issues that may directly affect them. Learn more here.

Start the New Year by going green with your live Christmas tree. Live Christmas trees are biodegradable, which means they are easily reused or recycled for mulch and other purposes.
