Dia de Los Muertos Celebration


Please join the Mesquite Arts Council for the 6th annual Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Celebration. On October 29, from 4-7 PM. A variety of kid's activities, cultural entertainment, and visual experiences will be offered to educate the public on this Mexican cultural holiday. Dallas County elections


Dallas County will be holding an election on Nov. 8. Early voting dates are Oct. 24 through Nov. 4. There will be two early voting locations in Mesquite: Lakeside Activity Center, 101 Holley Park Drive and Florence Recreation Center, 2501 Whitson Way. All election information, including all Dallas County voting locations, can be found on the Dallas County Elections website at www.dallascountyvotes.org.

Keep Mesquite Beautiful to host Arbor Day

Keep Mesquite Beautiful, Inc. will host a public Arbor Day event at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4 at Hanby Elementary School located at 480 Gross Rd. Mesquite, TX 75149. The event will include a performance from Hanby Elementary School Choir, Poem by Evans Recreational Center Adults 50+, guest speakers, and native plant seedling and sapling giveaway. Mesquite to host Veterans Day Celebration

Join the City of Mesquite on Saturday, November 5 for a Veterans Day Celebration as we honor those who have served in the military. The event will be at 11:00 a.m. at Mesquite’s Veteran’s Memorial, located at City Lake Park, and will feature ceremonial activities, musical performances, and remarks by city leaders and veterans.  Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/PARD for info.

Jon Latimore Park opening


On Saturday, October 22, Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department held a ribbon cutting event for the new Jon Latimore park at 1025 North Bryan Avenue. Jon Latimore Park is named in honor of the city’s first African American police officer. Read more here.

Halloween Safety Tips


Make Halloween safe for your little monsters with a few easy safety tips. Keep all decorations away from open flames and other heat sources. If possible, use a battery operated candle or glow-stick. And remember to keep exits clear of decorations. Watch the video PSA for more Halloween safety tips from the Mesquite Fire and Police Departments.

Parks and Recreation Turkey Camp


Over Thanksgiving break, students in kindergarten through sixth grade can spend a day or the whole week playing games, creating holiday crafts, and experiencing other fun activities. Turkey Camp will be available at Dunford Recreation Center, 1015 Green Canyon Drive, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 21 - 25 (no camp on Thursday, Nov. 24). The fee is $20 per day (per resident) and $30 per day (per non-resident). Register online at www.cityofmesquite.com/HolidayCamps.
