City Council adopts criteria and guidelines for redistricting

After an assessment of the 2020 Census data at the Jan. 18 City Council meeting, the Mesquite City Council adopted criteria and guidelines to proceed with redistricting the city to achieve population balance across the council districts. The criteria adopted applies to the development of new districting plans and guidelines for public participation in the redistricting process. Daddy Daughter Dance tickets
on sale

Tickets to the 2022 Daddy Daughter Dance, The Greatest Dance on Earth, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 19, are now on sale. Tickets may be purchased online at www.cityofmesquite.com/PARD as well as at all recreation centers and the Parks and Recreation Administration Office, 1515 North Galloway Ave. The dance will be held at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive. Advanced ticket purchase is required. Tickets are $15 per person, per session, and are open to all ages. Tickets are limited and will not be sold at the door. 



Animal shelter

Mesquite Animal Shelter receives donations in honor of actress Betty White

The Mesquite Animal Shelter along with shelters nationwide received a surge in donations thanks to the Betty White Challenge. The Jan. 17 challenge was created in tribute to mark the 100th birthday of the late actress, an animal activist. To date, the shelter has received 58 donations totaling more that $1,400 collected in her honor. Visit www.cityofmesquite.com/AnimalServices to learn more about the shelter or to make a donation.


Fleet award

City of Mesquite receives 2021 Bronze Fleet Award 


The City of Mesquite’s Equipment Services Division of the Public Works Department was recognized as a 2021 Bronze Fleet Award Winner. The annual honor, awarded by the North Texas Council of Government’s Clean City Commission, recognizes fleets for their commitment to a cleaner environment through their efforts to reduce emissions and improve the fuel efficiency of their fleets. The City has been recognized as an outstanding Fleet for three straight years.

Mesquite receiving citizen input through community survey


The City of Mesquite is conducting a Mesquite Community Attitude and Satisfaction Survey to get input from its citizens on programs and services. Randomly selected Mesquite citizens are being contacted and receiving an invitation to participate in the survey questionnaire by mail or online through the end of January to ensure a statistical, scientific response of the entire city is captured. The survey will then be open to the public in February for additional input. Learn more.


Leadership Mesquite

City Council honors the 2022 Class
of Leadership Mesquite

Leadership Mesquite is a nine-month educational and awareness leadership program of the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce. This past Tuesday, the Class of 2022 was hosted by the City of Mesquite to learn about essential functions of municipal government. The class was recognized by the City Council and participated in the City Council meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
