Mesquite announces new headquarters for Vehicle Accessories, Inc.


On Sept. 20, the Mesquite City Council passed a series of resolutions for Vehicle Accessories, Inc. to relocate its corporate headquarters to Mesquite, Texas by the end of 2022. This includes 315 new manufacturing jobs with an annual payroll of $13.5 million. Vehicle Accessories, Inc. is an integrated manufacturer of protective door edge guards, all-weather floor mats, splash guards, body side moldings, bumper protectors, and door sills for the automotive industry. Park named after former mayor, Mike Anderson


On Sept. 20, the Mesquite City Council passed a resolution naming the future park on Emporium Square in honor of Mike Anderson who served as Mayor from 1997 to 2007. Mike Anderson Park will include a soccer field, cricket field, and volleyball fields. Learn more.

Mesquite earns 2021 Preservation Texas Honor Award


Preservation Texas, the statewide non-profit historic preservation advocacy and education organization, recognized Historic Mesquite, Inc.’s restoration of the outbuildings at Opal Lawrence Historical Park as one of only nine projects to receive the 2021 Preservation Texas Honor Award. The award presentation was made at the Sept. 20 Mesquite City Council Meeting. Learn more.

Volunteer Services to start using new volunteer software


The City of Mesquite will start using a new volunteer software called Better Impact that will assist in volunteer recruitment through onboarding and training as well as volunteer coordination. Initial training and learning libraries through Better Impact will be available to both administrators and existing volunteers starting this fall. Learn more

Meter conversion project starts in October


The City of Mesquite has started a meter conversion project for all its residential and commercial water utility customers. The company Ameresco and their subcontractor Pedal Valve (PVI) were chosen to replace outdated manual meters with upgraded meters as part of an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project which will upgrade and modernize the City’s water billing infrastructure. With this AMI water meter project, customers will have access to more frequent detailed information about water consumption, enabling them to have better control over their water usage and monthly bills. The City of Mesquite has moved forward with its Clean City Initiative by adding more programs and opportunities for the community to get involved to help address litter in public areas and community appearance. New solid waste ordinance goes into effect Oct. 1


As a part of its new Clean City Initiative, the Mesquite City Council approved new requirements for its solid waste customers that go into effect Oct. 1, which include trash being secured in trash bags within an approved trash container, specific times on when the trash can be set out for collection and limits on bulky items. For more information call the Solid Waste Division at 972-216-6285.
