City Council meets Tuesday, Sept. 7 Mesquite City Council will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 5 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B followed by a Staff Work Session at 6:30 p.m. and the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. The public attending the meeting will have the option of wearing a face covering but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. City holiday closure on Sept. 6

Meter conversion project starts in October The City of Mesquite will begin a meter conversion project for all its residential and commercial water utility customers. The company Ameresco and their subcontractor Pedal Valve (PVI) were chosen to replace outdated manual meters with upgraded meters as part of an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project which will upgrade and modernize the City’s water billing infrastructure. With this AMI water meter project, customers will have access to more frequent detailed information about water consumption, enabling them to have better control over their water usage and monthly bills. Mesquite Police Department debuts new interview room for assault victims On Aug. 27, the Mesquite Police Department (MPD) debuted its new Soft Interview Room for victims of sexual assault and other violent crimes. The room featuring living-room style chairs, decorative lighting, a rug and artwork was sponsored by Project Beloved - The Molly Jane Mission. MPD Officer receives 2021 MADD North Texas Enforcement Award Mesquite Police Department Officer Robert Keith was presented with the 2021 Mothers Against Drunk Driving North Texas Enforcement Award. The award is presented to officers who exemplify a strong commitment to DWI enforcement and for keeping Mesquite citizens and roadways safe. 9/11 20th Anniversary Ceremony On Sept. 11, residents are invited to the Patriot Day ceremony remembering the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The ceremony, marking the 20th anniversary of 9/11, will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Mesquite Freedom Park, 1527 N. Galloway Avenue. It will include special presentations, music and ceremonial activities.

Guts and Gory Zombie Run & Challenge
Experience a zombie apocalypse at the “Guts and Gory” Zombie Run and Challenge on Sept. 18 at Camp Rorie Galloway, 3100 Lawson Road. There are two ways to participate, either as a runner or as part of the zombie horde. The fee for runners is $25 during Early Bird registration until Sept. 4. New solid waste ordinance goes into effect Oct. 1 As a part of its new Clean City Initiative, the Mesquite City Council approved new requirements for its solid waste customers that go into effect Oct. 1, which include trash being secured in trash bags within an approved trash container, specific times on when the trash can be set out for collection and limits on bulky items.
