City Council meets Aug. 2
Mesquite City Council will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B followed by an Employee Work Session at 6:30 p.m. and the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. The public attending the meeting will have the option of wearing a face covering but the city will continue to implement social distancing measures with limited seating. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. on Aug. 2 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216- 6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Mesquite breaks ground on Mesquite Airport Logistics Center On July 26, the City of Mesquite, Dalfen Industrial and Stream Realty officially broke ground on phase one of the new two million square foot Mesquite Airport Logistics Center master planned industrial park. Phase one of the industrial park will feature two buildings each with a clearance height of 36 feet, and both combining for more than 200 dock doors and parking for more than 130 truck trailers. Mesquite seeks public input on new parks master plan The City of Mesquite is seeking public input on a new Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan through a citizen survey at www.cityofmesquite.com/ParksMasterPlan. The survey includes specific questions on facilities, programs and parks. The new master plan is expected to be completed later this fall. The survey is open until Aug. 15. Learn more.

City honors firefighter Patrick Wilson On July 23, the City of Mesquite honored Firefighter Patrick Wilson for 35 years of service. Wilson started his career with the Mesquite Fire Department on April 7, 1986, was promoted to Driver-Engineer on May 9, 1997, earned his paramedic certification in 1994 and was the 2013 Firefighter of the Year. Mayor Bruce Archer presented a proclamation at his retirement ceremony. Learn more and read the proclamation.

Mesquite Hornets hold litter clean up at Paschall Park On July 24, the Mesquite Hornets Football and Drill Team Association partnered with Keep Mesquite Beautiful and organized a litter clean up at Paschall Park. The group wanted to teach the kids the importance of giving back, so they helped keep Mesquite beautiful by cleaning the fields they use during their season. Learn more.

Doggie Splash Day on Aug. 7 Dogs and their owners are invited to splash and play at the 17th annual Doggie Splash Day on Saturday, Aug. 7. The event will be from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Vanston Pool, 2913 Oates Drive. Admission is $5 for one owner and one pet, $2 for each additional pet and $1 for all spectators. Participants who bring a jar of peanut butter or jelly to support the Spread the Love campaign will receive $2 off admission. The Mesquite Animal Shelter will also be at Doggie Splash Day with dogs who are available for adoption. They will also be offering free microchipping. Learn more.

File to run as a candidate for City Council The City of Mesquite has launched a new webpage to assist those who want to consider filing their candidacy to serve on the City Council. The 2021 City election, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and Councilmembers for Places 1 – 6, will be held on Nov. 2. The last day to file is Aug.16. Artist exhibition at the Mesquite Arts Center on Aug. 5 Head to the Mesquite Ars Center, 1527 N. Galloway Avenue, to view the Oculus art exhibition by Daniel Yanez. Mesquite Championship Rodeo The Mesquite Championship Rodeo (MCR) is at the Mesquite Arena, 1818 Rodeo Drive for the summer. MCR will take place every Saturday at 7:30 p.m. until Aug. 28.
