Front Street Station Celebration on May 22


Downtown Mesquite will host a public grand opening event on May 22 to celebrate the opening of Front Street Station, the City of Mesquite’s $5.5 million infrastructure improvement project. Mesquite hosts June 9 job fair


There will be a Mesquite Job Fair at the Mesquite Convention Center, 1700 Rodeo Drive, on Wednesday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Mesquite Business Retention and Expansion Task Force (BRE) will host a great opportunity for both job seekers of all ages and employers looking to hire. Mesquite Veteran's Memorial

Mesquite will hold Memorial Day Service on May 31


The city will host a Memorial Day Service on May 31 at the Mesquite Veterans Memorial, 425 S. Galloway Avenue. The program will begin just before 3 p.m. to coincide with National Moment of Remembrance. Attendees are encouraged to arrive no later than 2:30 p.m. to allow time to park and enter the memorial area.

Mesquite Police Department announces its first African American Sergeant


The Mesquite Police Department has announced that police officer Torrey Rhone has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant, becoming the first African American to achieve this rank in the 68-year history of the department. The department hosted a promotional ceremony on May 14 at the Mesquite Arts Center. Sergeant Rhone began his career with the department on September 10, 2007. Learn more.

At the May 17 City Council meeting, the City of Mesquite and the Mesquite Elks Lodge No. 2404 announced during a video presentation their 2020 - 2021 award recipients, Debbie Anderson as Citizen of the Year, Brad Meyer as Police Officer of the Year and Driver Engineer/Paramedic Vance Lay as Firefighter of the Year. Learn more.

Mesquite moves forward with Mesquite 635 industrial project


Creation Equity, an alternative investment and real estate development firm, will begin construction on Mesquite 635, a new state-of-the-art industrial development in Mesquite. Located on the Southeast corner of IH 635 and U.S. 80, Mesquite 635 will offer 542,826 square feet of industrial and logistics space featuring two high-end, rear load buildings and one bulk front load building with immediate highway visibility and accessibility. Centurion American’s Iron Horse Village Development Names Builders

Iron Horse Village, a new mixed-use community from Centurion American Development Group, is announcing builders for its 336 single-family homes. D.R. Horton, Gehan Homes and Mattamy Homes will construct the houses and townhomes on 54 acres of prime real estate adjacent to the famed Mesquite Arena. Iron Horse Village will incorporate the single-family homes, retail, restaurant and entertainment space, and 4.5 acres of green space. Learn more.

Successful Mesquite Recycles Day


Mesquite hosted a successful Recycles Day on May 8. Solid Waste collected 70 tires, 10 pallets and about 4,200 pounds of scrap metal. Residents also filled an entire 20-foot box truck and a large cargo van with donated household goods. There was also nearly 6,000 pounds of documents shredded at the event. The free event provides Mesquite residents the opportunity to drop off a variety of reusable items, electronic-waste and offers professional document shredding. The next Mesquite Recycles Day is on Nov. 13 at Poteet High School, 3300 Poteet Drive. Learn more.

Concert Courtyard Series with the Mesquite Arts Center


On May 27 at 7 p.m., the Mesquite Arts Center will host a free concert as part of their summer Courtyard Concert Series. This event features local indie bands that showcase some of their most recent music and is a family-friendly FREE event.
