Mesquite City Council approves new noise ordinance


On March 15, the Mesquite City Council approved updates to the City Code to provide new tools to address noise complaints. The amended ordinance will allow city staff to address complaints of noises that are plainly audible under certain circumstances and locations, establish new noise zones, update the daytime and nighttime maximum permissible sound levels to correspond with other metroplex cities and other changes. Mesquite announces its new COVID-19 operational procedures


The City of Mesquite will not require, but will encourage, the public to wear face coverings in its facilities and while attending its public meetings. After receiving input from the City Council at their March 15 meeting, the city finalized its operational procedures in regard to Governor Greg Abbott’s removal of the statewide mask mandate and expanding business capacities to 100%. The City of Mesquite Parks and Recreation Department will host a drive-through Easter egg event. The Bunny Trail is Saturday, March 20, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Westlake Park, 601 Gross Road. The free event will feature goody bags and professional photos with the Easter Bunny. Learn more.

The City of Mesquite’s March sales tax receipts, which represent sales activity for the month of January, is 5.5% below the amount reported for the same period last year. Sales tax contributes 25% of the total revenue used to support the City’s General Fund, which supports services such as police, fire, parks and recreation, libraries and public works. Learn more.
