City Council meets Dec. 7


Mesquite City Council will meet on Dec. 7 at City Hall, 757 N. Galloway Avenue. The Pre-Meeting begins at 5 p.m. in Training Rooms A and B, followed by a Staff Work Session at 6:30 p.m. and the Regular Meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Members of the public, applicants and interested parties may attend the meeting in person. All persons present at the meeting location must observe social distancing by remaining a minimum of six (6) feet from other meeting participants and must wear a covering over their nose and mouth. Members of the public desiring to comment during Citizens Forum must preregister as follows: Send an email or call the City Secretary on or before 3 p.m. on Dec. 7 at sland@cityofmesquite.com or 972-216-6244. Provide the City Secretary with your name and address. Comments on agenda items may be made during the meeting or by submission on or before 3 p.m. on Dec. 7 to the following email address: sland@cityofmesquite.com.  View meeting agendas online. Shop Mesquite this holiday season


The City is encouraging citizens to shop local and shop Mesquite during the holiday season to help business owners and the local economy. As residents’ shop in Mesquite, their money goes to work in Mesquite. Sales tax revenue makes up more than 25% of the City’s general fund. That fund provides the financial resources for most City services like the Mesquite Police Department, Mesquite Fire Department, Mesquite Animal Services, the Parks and Recreation Department and a variety of quality of life programs. Mesquite seeks public input on Solid Waste Survey


The City of Mesquite is asking for residential and commercial solid waste customers to provide their input on the City’s solid waste services. The goal is to use this feedback in developing a 20-year solid waste master plan for review by the City Council. This online survey will be available until Dec. 31. Learn more.

IH 635 Project closures

IH 635 LBJ East Project Update


The Texas Department of Transportation has started construction on IH 635 LBJ East. Starting Friday, Dec. 4 the eastbound IH 635 mainlanes at Forest Lane will be closed to perform beam settings and the westbound IH 635 mainlanes will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 5. Mainlane traffic will be detoured to the frontage roads. Utility Billing Office offering longer-term payment plans


On Jan. 5, 2021, the City will resume water disconnections if there is a past due balance. Longer-term payment plans are available to help residents who are struggling to pay their City water bills due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City can offer a payment plan that fits their unique situation. Call the Utility Billing Office at 972-216-6208 (press 0) to discuss your options.

The employees for the City of Mesquite continue to give back to the community they serve as they raised more than $36,000 for local charities as a part of their 2020 Real. Texas. Giving. Campaign. In the past four years, City employees have donated nearly $140,000 through the campaign to local charitable organizations, programs and services that support the Mesquite community. Learn more.

Deadline to buy Mesquite Veterans Memorial bricks Dec. 18


The City of Mesquite extended the deadline for the public to purchase a personalized brick to be installed at the new Mesquite Veterans Memorial to Dec. 18. The cost of each 4” x 8” brick is $50 and includes three lines for a personalized inscription. The public can order a brick at www.MesquiteVeteransMemorial.org.

The City of Mesquite will be working with Ameresco, Inc. to test randomly selected residential and commercial water meters throughout the city through Dec. 11. This is the first step the City is taking as it considers replacing its current analog meters with an advanced digital system. Learn more.

The Mesquite Arts Council is offering a free Christmas Ornament Kit, as part of their Tote-and-Go Service. This event is first-come, first-serve. Kits will be available starting at 10 a.m. inside the Mesquite Arts Center front lobby through a contactless service. Learn more.
